Friday Five

1.  It's Friday and we have a staff retreat this afternoon.  At least we get done at 4:00.  On the bright side, I was in charge of ordering lunch so at least that will be tasty.  On the menu: Chili's Fajitas, Quesadilla Explosion Salad and Chips and Salsa.  Oh yeah, and super cute cupcakes from Dillons!

{Sorry about the quality.  The photo was taken on my phone.}

2.  I made a decision this week that I'm going to learn how to knit.  This decision was partially inspired by Pinterest and Etsy and partially by a friend who knows how to knit.  Wish me luck!

3.  My birthday is two weeks from Tuesday!!  Woo hoo!!  Have I mentioned that I really love to celebrate my birthday?  Brandon asked me about my birthday list the other day and I realized I hadn't even thought about it.  So, this weekend I plan to do some brainstorming.

4.  We have been debating about getting another Boston puppy.  We have been highly discouraged by my mom who keeps telling me we will regret the decision and that she will not welcome more than one dog per family when we're all together.  However, I think she would have a hard time resisting another face as cute as this one...

5.  I'm already looking forward to the Farmers' Market tomorrow morning!  Last week I bought a loaf of jalepeno cheese bread that was to die for topped with cream cheese and a fresh tomato slice.  YUM!  I have also been craving cucumber and tomato salad so I plan to buy the fixings for that as well.

Happy Friday!  I hope you all enjoy your weekends!

Friday Five

1.  This has been such a mood lifter for our community.  In the past, it was perceived that the families were not very deserving, but this family is nothing but deserving!!

2.  I made homemade mac and cheese last night and did not feel the least bit guilty!!

3.  I love reading Reality Steve and getting the inside scoop on all things Bachelor and Bachelorette!  Just  like yesterday when he announced who the next Bachelorette will be...  I'm sure the show producers are just seething that the information gets leaked.  (I know, there are more important things going on in the world like the power struggle in Libya and the earthquake in New Zealand, and I pay attention to those things too, but sometimes, I just have to indulge my guilty pleasurs and this is one of them!)

4.  We had a great small group lesson this week about being salt and light in the world.  I realized that I need to incorporate this concept into my every day life a little more.  We have so many opportunities to share Jesus with other people without even getting out of our comfort zones and it is a real shame when we don't seize those opportunities.  Some areas I need to work on are not participating in gossip, not holding back my thoughts on moral/social issues that arise in conversations, and not being afraid to talk openly about what God has done in my life.

5.  When I left my house for work this morning I saw a For Sale sign in my rear view mirror and for a split second thought it was in the yard of our crazy neighbors, but unfortunately, it was their neighbors' yard.  Shucks!

Friday Five

1.  Monday, we celebrated Valentine's Day and as I mentioned in my Valentine post, all Brandon wanted was for me to make homemade pizza.  In the rush of preparing my Valentine treats, I forgot to make the pizza dough (I make it and pop it in the fridge for a later use or sometimes, I even freeze it).  So, as I was wracking my brain about what to do, I remembered all of my favorite Food Network TV chefs saying sometimes they stop by their local pizzeria and purchase their dough.  Ah ha!  So, I called our local pizzeria, Knolla's, and sure enough, they sell their dough.  So, I swung by on my way home and we were on our way to homemade Valentine pizza!  I will definitely be picking up their dough more often because it was convenient and the pizza turned out amazing!

{And what is Valentine pizza without super cute Valentine plates, also part of my 5 days of Valentines from B}

2.  I mentioned this on Facebook and Twitter, but yesterday the high temperature was 78 degrees which set a new record for our city.  However, the crazier part is that we experienced a 95 degree shift in the temperatures from one week ago!  I guess you could say the snow has melted.

3.  Umm, I'm not sure if we were the only people who were less than impressed with Lady Gaga's Grammy performance, but with all of the hype and the "egg", I guess we were expecting something significantly more crazy...  I think her stint on Good Morning America, where she was promoting safe sex while wearing a condom inspired outfit was a bit more bizarre.

4.  The Justin Bieber Experience on Glee this week was awesome!!

Yep, I'll admit I might have a little Bieber Fever...LOL!!

5.   And last but not least, Monday night was a good, good night in our household!!

The Wildcats played an amazing game and gave those Chicken Hawks!!  Sadly, this is how they should have been playing all year, but we won't dwell on the past, we'll just hope they continue the momentum for the remainder of the season!

Friday Five

This is going to be a short, shallow post.  Consider yourself warned!
  1. We have a half-day staff retreat today.  Enough said.
  2. I mentioned on Twitter and Facebook towards the end of the day on Friday of last week that I was tired of seeing old men peeing outside my window at work. Sadly, this really is a reality and one that I think might have scarred me for life!
  3. The temperature today is going to be 70 degrees!  Yes, it is the end of January and we're experiencing spring/summer like weather.  Maybe there is some truth to that ozone thing...at least I am wearing cute flats today without socks :)
  4. I think I might be missing out on a good season of American Idol (sidenote: I have not watched AI in many many years.).  For the past two weeks there has been a lot of chatter on Twitter and online about how good this season is with the new judges.  But, for some reason, I really can't justify another reality show between The Bachelor, Real Housewives (INSERT CITY HERE) (which by the way the NY Housewives will be back on the air in Februrary along with Bethenny!), The Kardashians and my regular shows that Brandon considers "okay to watch", I just don't think I can committ to watching AI.  So, I will live vicariously through the tweets I read.
  5. And for a recipe...I made these muffins for small group this week and they were so yummy!
That's all I've got this week.  We have a busy weekend (well Brandon has a busy weekend) but I'll be back next week with the details!

Friday Five

1.  Did you see this vidoe of the girl who fell in the mall fountain while she was sending a text message?

Apparently she is contemplating suing the mall security for posting the video to YouTube and for laughing at her and making fun of her.  What ever happened to not taking life too seriously?  I mean come on, I was pooped on by a cow when I was little and I lived through it and can laugh about it!

2.   As of this week, Wildcat basketball isn't looking so good.  Okay, who am I kidding...it hasn't looked good for several weeks now.

3.  I won the hearts of several of my co-workers this week by bringing in these treats.  I even had people coming to my office the next day asking if I had any left :)

4.  Did you all see Modern Family this week?  I absolutely LOVE that show!!  They really got the shaft at the Golden Globes on Sunday.  While I love GLEE, I think Modern Family deserved the award.

5.  Speaking of the Golden Globes, this was my pick for best dressed of the night:

I'm not a fashion expert by any means, but I just thought this dress was tasteful, sophisticated and sparkly.  I also liked her glamourous hair-do and her not-so-in-your-face jewels.  I also really like her character on Glee, so maybe I'm naturally drawn to her.

Hope you have a great weekend!  We're attempting sushi tonight with some friends and hoping for good outcomes!!

Friday Five

I'm stealing an idea from our friend Kevin, who writes a Friday Five every week.  However, I don't think I will even try to compare my Friday Five to Kevin's because he is a much better writer, always finds funny/interesting/unique videos to share, and always makes me think.  I can't promise any of that!!

But, here goes my attempt (plus, by Friday I am just ready to ramble and this gives me an excuse to do so):

1.  My heart has been hurting for all of the people who have suffered through a tragedy this week.  From the shootings in Arizona, to the floods in Australia, to the one year anniversary of the earthquake in Haiti and the needs that still exist, and just this morning I heard a part of Brazil was flooding

2.  I received an email containing the 2011 Consumer Trends.  Not so sure what I think about some of them...like #4.  Makes me a little worried for our country's direction.

3.  I got beat by a co-worker in Words With Friends on my iPod this week.  And I got beat bad.  502 - 235.  And to think I was proud of my word-making abilities.  I definitely ate some humble pie that day.

4.  We've been keeping my parents dog this week and re-living this scene all day, every day:

{Sorry about the poor picture quality.  I stole this pic from my old post.}

5.  With nothing on the agenda for the weekend, I'm sort of itching to try my hand at some homemade curtains!  And don't think I'm getting all fancy...it is a no-sew pattern!
