Does anyone recognize this place? If I didn't know any better, I would think it was anywhere but the plains of Kansas, let alone Southwest Kansas!
This past weekend, we went to Brandon's home town to visit his parents. His mom had told us a week or so ago that we were going on a field trip when we visited, but she would not tell us where we were going. Needless to say, we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at our destination to find the Chalk Pyramids. I had no idea this place even existed, so I was definitely excited to shocked to see these massive Earth formations towering over the landscape!
I thought this picture with the truck really showed the scale of these formations.
And yes, Koby (and Samson - not pictured) got to go along on the trip and absolutely loved running around!
We couldn't have asked for a better day to be outside. The weather was beautiful and there was no wind, which is an exception in Southwest Kansas!

Yep! That's Brandon's head. He crawled up a set of "steps" and was peeking through the crevice.
And then it was Craig's turn!
After we finished crawling around the Chalk Pyramids, we headed back towards town and had a picnic lunch at Scott Park, one of Brandon's childhood summer hang out spots. Again, the weather was perfect so we just relaxed by the water and enjoyed our lunch!
This was definitely a great way to spend a Saturday! Now, I've decided we need to take more day trips to see more of our state's hidden treasures.
