Traditions

As the holidays approach, I've been thinking more and more about traditions. I like traditions. I like that they are constant. I like that every time you participate in a tradition, it brings back memories of years before. One of my favorite family tradtions during Christmas is when my dad reads the Christmas story, straight out of the Bible. There is just something so touching about that time. Everyone is silent and we are focusing on one thing, the birth of our Saviour! I also like that my mom still makes my Grandma Mentha's cranberry salad at Thanksgiving. Now, not all of us are crazy about the salad, but it is something that is special to my mom and it means that a little part of Grandma is still with us.

I want traditions of my own, too! I want to develop traditions that are special and unique to Brandon and I and our future family. So, this year, I'm starting something new that will allow us to develop those traditions. We're going to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas together, just the two of us. Now, we won't be doing it on the actual day, since we'll be with our families, but we're still going to do it. I'm not sure what our new traditions will be, but at least we're setting aside a special time to let those traditions develop. I'm going to cook "mini" meals and go to all the effort to make it a real holiday, just like if we were home.
