In years past, we've had some pretty exciting things happen! The first year, Tucker, my parent's Golden Retriever, took off swimming after a goose. It was probably all of about 50 degrees that day. Brandon and I weren't married or even engaged yet and he saved the day! He flagged down some old fishermen, who were missing a few teeth, climbed into their boat (without his shoes or socks) and they went out after Tucker. However, Tucker would not let them pull him in the boat and continued to swim after the bird. It wasn't until the goose flew off, that he decided to turn around, so Brandon and the fishermen just followed him. I'm not really sure what Brandon was going to do if Tucker started to drown - I guess it's a good thing he didn't!
The following year, Todd, my brother and Matt, my brother-in-law, got into some poison ivy - really bad poison ivy. A few days after we left, Todd had a conference in Minnesota or Wisconsin, but he ended up having to go to an emergency care facility to get a steroid shot!! Since then, they stay far, far away from the poison ivy - which leaves the rest of us to do all of the leaf raking and picking up!!
Last year might have been the grand finale of all time, even times to come. You see, we rake all of our leaves, haul them down to the shore and burn them, along with all of the twigs we pick up. Well, there has always been this HUGE water-logged tree stump on our part of the shore. Well, we were burning the leaves and thought we had them all burnt and the flames all out. So, we got semi-cleaned up and decided to take a boat ride. As we start heading back, we turn the corner that leads to our cove and notice this enormous smoke cloud. We thought that our neighbors had started to burn stuff and caught something on fire. So, we drive up that way and realize that no, it wasn't our neighbors, it was our property that was on fire from our leaves that had been burning!!! So, we raced back to the dock, drug out all of the hoses we own, gathered buckets and started putting the fire out. It was quite scary and exciting and it took forever to put out. Needless to say, we had some pretty green grass that following summer, but it's not something we want to re-live again!
However, this year, we may not have to do all that much. Missouri has been getting a lot of rain and Table Rock is so high that the last time the lake reached it's current level was 1920! Here are some pictures my mom took a few weeks ago, when she had to replace flooring that got flooded!
This picture is taken from our deck! The water is about 50 feet from the basement patio. This is where most of the leaves are, so maybe, just maybe they've all washed away!!
This is a wider view of our property. Most of that land below all of those trees was on fire last year!!
Another view of the lake from our house. This is also the shore where the big log was housed for so long - however, my aunt, who lives up the way from us, saw it floating down the lake a few weeks ago! Yippee!!!!!
Wish us luck, this year!!
